NorthStar 37-Ton Horizontal/Vertical Gas Log Splitter Review

The NorthStar 37-Ton Gas Splitter is for the serious log splitter who needs absolute reliability in their machine for years to come. Almost no log will make it out alive with all 37-tons of splitting force and the ability to chew through gnarly and knotted logs without skipping a beat. It’s certainly worth the price tag if you find yourself splitting cords regularly or even commercially. You’ll find jobs that would normally take weeks or months, smashed 41ea6x42cclout in just a day!

The low profile of this splitter is a key design feature as you don’t need to bend and lift logs so far onto the tray. This is great for all the times you need to split large and heavy logs as otherwise it would be a real struggle with a higher working level. The back leg is a great feature for added stability and also ssists when loading large logs onto the machine. The NorthStar 37-Ton Gas Splitter also features an engine guard to protect damage done by falling logs, rough handling and transportation.

Inbuilt log cradles ensure the logs that you split don’t roll off and end up on your toes- this is especially essential for those large logs which you will most likely be regularly loading onto the tray. The log cradle design is almost flawless as the manufacturers have used high quality gauge steel that is guaranteed to last the mile without snapping or bending as other splitter trays at a lower price tag often do. You will also notice the standard hoses are made of high quality durable material. The 2inch ball coupler makes for easy towing and transportation from job to job.

Pros

The auto idle/throttle return saves a lot of time and is a convenient feature to have on your log splitter. The low profile design comes out on top in terms of popularity among log splitters and its certainty a stand out feature on the Northstar 37 tonner. You can’t go wrong with the sheer splitting force of this machine, being able to throw almost anything at it makes for a very reliable piece of equipment in your tool shed. The horizontal/vertical splitting feature allows you to split regular size logs as well as larger logs on the vertical feature without trouble.

Cons

The only thing worth mentioning here is that the unit is actually shipped in two pieces. The bulk of the splitter arrives in supportive steel framework whereas the engine actually arrives in a separate cardboard box. This leaves the engine open to damage from rough handling as it is missing the added protection for peace of mind.

Using The Log Splitter

Follow the user manual that came with your machine to set up correctly and ensure all hydraulic fluids and oils are topped up and ready for use. Set the splitter up in the position where you wish to operate from, ensuring the area is flat for sturdy operation and free of any obstacles. Place blocks under the wheels for extra stability and security. Ensure the suction port is on the lower side of the splitter.

Place the log on the beam firmly against the foot plate then use the valve lever to drive the cylinder into the push block against the log. Split along the grain where possible. Hold down the lever until the log is split or until it reaches full extension, in which case re-position the log to split again. Avoid bottoming out the cylinder to extend the life of your machine. Lock the beam into the vertical position by using the catch pin through the vertical lock to split larger logs in the vertical position.

Make sure that whenever you move your splitter you turn the fuel shot-off valve into the “off” position. When towing ensure the support leg is in the travel position and the coupling is secure. As with all gas log splitters always store in cool, dry places away from any kind of heat.

All in all the NorthStar 37-Ton Gas Splitter is a heavy duty piece of equipment that should be taken seriously!
